WORDS-Women Organization for the Real Development of the Society:
(A joint venture of SAHAYI and MIRROR)
Women Organization for Real Development of Society (WORDS) is a joint venture of SAHAYI and MIRROR. It is an outcome of long discussions and classes. WORDS is an organization meant for development of women. SAHAYI, Thiruvananthapuram assisted this organization in the initial stage. MIRROR is the implementing and monitoring agency. Women in the society face many issues such as sexual exploitation, economic exploitation, defaming etc. So to address these issues in cooperation with other likeminded women organizations and NGOs, the organization involves in issue based interventions.
Through WORDS, MIRROR plans to initiate a project named WE- Wayanad –Women Empowerment in Wayanad in the coming months.
SWASRAYASAHAYI:
Capacity Building Training for ‘KUDUMBASREE’ and SHGs.
Capacity Building Trainings to SHG members is one of the main thrust of MIRROR. In co-operation with Grama Panchayaths MIRROR provided trainings to SHG/Kudumbasree units on various subjects for the attainment of the vision of Kudumbasree. So far MIRROR could cover more than 9000 women through different programs.COMMUNITY BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT TRAINING
MIRROR provides Community Business Development (CBD) training programs, to rural women in co-operation with concerned Grama Panchayaths.OBSERVATION AND CELIBRATION OF IMPORTANT DAYS
In association with different organizations and agencies the agency use to celebrate/observe International Women’s Day, Indian independence Day, Human Rights Day, World AIDS Day, International Environment Day, Bhopal Day, World Wet Land Day, Earth Day, Anti Child Labor Day, International Mother`s Day etc.ROLE OF PANCHAYATHI RAJ INSTITUTIONS AGAINST WOMEN EXPLOITATION
In co-operation with WORDS (Women Organization for Rural Development of the Society) MIRROR conducted a one day orientation program for PRI members and SHG leaders on the Role of PRI against Women Exploitation.FLOWER ARRANGEMENT COMPETITION
As part of Onam celebration (the festival of Kerala) MIRROR conducted all Wayanad Flower arrangement competition with the name (AVANIPOOTHANLAM) for the self help groups. It was a full day celebration with songs and dances.SHG MANAGEMENT TRAININGS:
To equip the rural women to manage their SHGs MIRROR organizes capacity building training programs for the SHGs with the name ‘Swashrayashayi’ with the support of Grama Panchayaths. Provides trainings with special focus on record management and EDP and promoted IGPs.SENSITIZATION PROGRAMS FOR THE WOMEN PRI MEMBERS:
MIRROR organizes special sensitization programs for women PRI members in different Grama Panchayaths, to enable them to discharge their duties as per Panchayathi Raj Act, in association with SAHAYI a Trivandrum based development organization.FAMILY LIFE EDUCATION PROGRAMME
With the assistance of Kerala State Aids Control Society,(KSACS) MIRROR conducted Family Life Education to the school and college students in Sulthan Bathery Block. MIRROR could cover more than 6000 adolescence from different educational institutions. The program is continuing during the last 3 years.VALUE EDUCATION AND LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT
The training team of MIRROR conducted a series of Value Education and Leadership trainings to the youth in the project area, and provided Value Education to more than 250 adolescence through Balasabha-vacation class. MIRROR conducted two training programmes for Tribal on ‘Sustainable development of Tribal in the context of ‘OORUKUTAM” in association with Indian Social Institute Bangalore. A total of 84 tribal youths attended the 10 days residential training camps in 2004 and-2005.STD/HIV/AIDS AWARENESS PROGRAMME
MIRROR team organizes classes on STD/HIV/AIDS and safe sex practices to the villagers, Kudumbasree and SHG members in the project area. The resource teams of MIRROR extents their expertise to other NGO’s and CBOs.VIDHYA –IT @VILLAGE:(Computer literacy for Villagers and Students)
As part of providing computer literacy to the villagers and students, in co-operation with Deccan Computers, a well known IT institution in Wayanad, MIRROR implemented a computer literacy programme named VIDHYA –IT @VILLAGE at Sulthan Bathery and Pulpally Panchayaths. A total of 200 students were attended the classes.OORJA-2003: (LPG Connection for the rural families)
In order to provide LPG connection to the rural families, MIRROR, with the assistance of nationalized and scheduled banks in the area implemented a project named OORJA –2003. The aim of this project is to provide LPG connections to 3000 rural families in 3 Panchayath of Sulthan Bathery Block.WATER –ELIXIR OF LIFE:

In co-operation with Ministry of Forest and Environment Govt. of India, MIRROR conducted seminars and Training Programs on the theme Water-Elixir of Life in the project area and a total of 900 youth and women participated in this program.MEDICAL CAMPS
In co-operation with Pakkam primary health center, MIRROR conducted a medical camp in Pulpally Panchayath. A total of 225 patients attended in this program. Another camp was held in Sulthan Bathery Panchayath focusing on gynic problems. 53 women sought treatment and advices from this particular camp.RURAL ENERGY CONSERVATION AGENCY (RECA):
(Promote Non-Conventional Energy Sources and Organic farming in the rural areas)
To propagate and promote non-conventional energy and organic farming in the rural areas, MIRROR formed an energy club named as Rural Energy Conservation Agency (RECA) consisting 7 members including 4 governing body members from MIRROR. For the effective implementation, we made tie up with BIOTECH, Thiruvananthapuram. MIRROR in association with Ministry of Non-Conventional Energy Sources Government of India (MNES) and BIOTECH started the programme by implementing biogas propagation and promotion, providing Rs.2300 as MNES subsidy.RAINWATER HARVESTING
With the assistance of Soil Conservation Department, MIRROR build 20 rain water collection tanks in Vythiri Grama Pnahayath and built 10 rain water collection tanks (brick model) in the Wild Life area of South Wayand Forest division. With the financial assistance from District Drought Relief Fund MIRROR constructed 20000 liter ferro-cement rain water collection tanks at Govt. UP.School-Sasimala, Community Health Centre-Pulpally, Tribal Hostel-Veliyambam, Govt. UP School-Chekadi and 20 tanks in different watershed areas. 125 tanks in Meenangadi Grama Panchayath in association with Giridhara Project-, 40 tanks in Nenmeni Grama Panchayath -Jalanidhi Project-, and 63 tanks in Pulaplly Grama Panchayath also were constructed by the organization.VOTERS AWARENESS CAMPAIGN
With the assistance by SAHAYI-Thiruvananthapuram, MIRROR held a one day Trainers Training Program to NGO leaders.One day orientation on Electoral Systems to the volunteers of NGOs, and Kudumbasree leaders. Information, Education & Communication (IEC) Materials distributed in Wayanad District. Perform Street Plays regarding the theme in different parts of Wayanad.BEAUTIFUL WAYANAD- A PROJECT BY DISTRCIT ADMINISTRATION
MIRROR actively participated in the Beautiful Wayanad Project by the district administration. Post Graduate Study Center Sulthan Bathery and MIRROR were entrusted to monitor and co-ordinate the programme covering the area, 3.5 kms. in the NH 212 with in the limits of Sulthan Bathery grama Panchayath. To mobilize the people residing at the sides of NH to beautify their premises by planting shady trees and flower bushes and keep the NH clean and tidy was the propose the programme.ONAM OF DESTITUTES
“Onam Illathavarude Onam”-MIRROR as an organization seeking novelty and an organization which is with the part of abandoned and destitute, arranged a noon meals with the beggars and destitute. The Sulthan Bathery Merchants Association donated the food grains for the noon meals.WORKSHOP ON EFFECTIVE FUNCTIONING OF NGOs
In association with Indian Council of Social Welfare and VOICE- Wayanad, MIRROR conducted a one day workshop on Effective Functioning of NGOs for post graduate students in social work and NGO personals.CHILDLINE SERVICES
MIRROR –Centre for Social Change actively participated in CHILD LINE PROJECT by Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment-Government of India and JVALA in Waynad. Team members and programme task force of MIRROR helped the concerned agency (JVALA).TRIBAL HOUSING
With the assistance of Waynad District Panchayath, MIRROR, constructed 6 tribal houses under Tribal Sub Plan in Suthan Bathery District Panchayath Division. Also constructed 35 tribal houses under Tribal Sub Plan with assistance of Pulpally Grama Panchayath in 2004.INTERNATIONAL YEAR OF BIODIVERSITY:
As part of observing International Year of Biodiversity (2010) MIRROR distributed 2010 units (consisting ten each) of fruit bearing plants to villagers through our Watershed Development Programs.JAIVA GRAMAM: (Promoting farmers to Organic farming)
To motivate farmers to follow organic farming, mobilizing farmers into bio-village, organized awareness programs and formed bio-fertilizers’ clusters in association with National NGOs Confederation, and distributed variety of bio manureCONSULTATIONS AND SEMINARS:
